Was I just having a dream or did I read a thread on here one time about someone who makes Easy Rougher/Finisher types tools at a reasonable price and the mention of a site where the cutting heads could be found cheap. I can't find that thread now.

If I wasn't just dreaming, does anyone know anyone who does this type work on the cheap? I'd like to try them out, but don't want to invest the $250 it would cost to test the real thing.

You can get a Byrd cutter from Griz. 30 bucks for a pack of 10.

Perhaps you're remembering the J&B "Peeler"?? It has a square shaft, which seems to be an advantage over some of the other knock-offs.

Not trying to sell anything here, but it is not that hard to make a lathe tool with carbide inserts. I have made a few more my fellow call makers with good results specially when turning hard woods , aluminum or brass. Folks are right a square tool shaft does work better than a round one indeed.
