Grizzly has their spring sale going on, and was looking at the 8" wet sharpening system, then noticed the 10" is about 19 lbs heavier, also has a 2" wide stone, and most discussion on the search is on the 10". So would I be dumb to buy the 8"? Also would like to know if the accu-sharp jig is the way to go to sharpen plane irons? Probably should get the lathe tool kit too if it is good. Please advise. Have an 8" grinder for common stuff, but would be nice to be able to sharpen tools without overheating them.

Jim,

If you already have an 8" grinder, and plan to keep it, and all things being equal (price, space, etc.), why not get the 10" machine? I think the shallower hollow grind you'd get from the larger wheel is a plus, in addition to the much wider wheel.

I think a light touch along with good stones (kept clean) can prevent burning on a dry wheel grinder, however.
