Well the meeting took place without much of a hitch! Matt Ranum and his wife got lost for a few minutes but that was O.K., because they caught me working instead of laying around like normal!
Matt was everything I hoped he would be, jovial, good spirited and full of questions, which of course I had all the answers too!!! HA!!HA!! The first thing we discussed is that a good hard working guy has to have a messy shop full of stuff, he said he has me beat, I take that as an open invitation for a personal inspection! Since they only live a couple hours away it could come sooner than later.
He noticed right away that the PM3520 is a good sized lathe and his eyes lite up with dreams of where he was going to put one some day..........then reality set in when the Mrs. said "NO WAY!!" She said that he had no room for such a thing. So of course I chimed in that an addition would be simple to do, and they agreed it would have to ba a whole new garage so her car could go in first!
We chatted and I showed him some tool techniques and let him try out the Mustard Monster after the info and watching me rough out a bowl and get things rolling. He said that it is much better to see things in person than in the videos as much is missed in the interpretation.
I asked if he needed some wood to take home and there was another no......."You don't need any wood, we live in the woods and are surrounded by wood" But in the end I prevailed and sent him home with a "Crack Willow" blank for him to take a "Crack" at it!! (Pun intended)!
We will meet again and more curls will fly and maybe some bull#%#$! too, it was a great day and the sun was out and no rain in sight. We had a little over 2" in the last 3 days so it was nice to see the sun. There is a picture for proof, so I wonder who will be my next weary traveler to visit the Woodennicol!
Thanks Matt, see you soon,
Jeff
