We have been wanting to make a quick visit to see the kids and our granddaughter in Kelowna.
Part of our visit is to take down a cherry tree in the back yard.
So the chainsaw was loaded and we took my truck.
It was not the biggest, but thats ok. A bit over 12" thick.

The branches were off when we arrived so it wasn't long and we had the rest cut up and out of the ground.
Loading the bigger branches will not be a problem.
The stump we may need some help with....

Now I'm not to sure what to do with this thing.
But it's going home with us.
For a not so big tree, there sure was a lot underground...

I remember visiting Kelowna during regatta when I was a kid. Looks like you may have some treasure inside that tree. Can't wait to see what you turn.

Gary, that chunk of gnarly cherry is going to look good hanging on the drive of that big ol' Mustard Monster!!

Just power wash it and cut it up for bowl blanks. Should be some great color in there.

Maybe not a huge tree, but bigger is not always better, uhh, well you know what I mean. I'd bet there's a real treasure in that root! Nice gloat.

Nice haul.I would watch for rocks in the root system.I brought home a nice spalted maple stump last year and found alot of rocks burried in the roots.Chainsaws don't like rocks.

Here is an example of a elm tree root ball. I am still in the sanding process and hope to start the oil finish this week. Hand sanding is not my favorite. The hollow section is the root end and now about 17" diameter x 12" H. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=135595

Gary, nice gloat and good score. Care to share some of that? Just kidding, Lots like a pot of gold at the end of the stump.

Power Wash -- now that is a thought. I have had so much trouble with the Poison Ivy and Oak on the trees I have cut; never thought of Power Washing. Thanks for the idea.

Nice catch Gary. You'll have fun with this one.

Thanks for all the comments guys.
I'm looking forward to getting this puppy home to see what I can do with it.
First thing will be to get another chain for my chainsaw. Cutting the roots underground was pretty hard on it....
Next will be trying to get ahold of Mike G. to make sure I don't ruin this before I get started.
