Digital Rebel for swmbo

The wife wants a digital camera for Christmas. I am looking at the Cannon Digital Rebel with a canon EF 24 – 85 mm usm lens. Does anyone have the digi rebel and what are your opinions of it?

Awesome. If you have other EF Lenses or accessories they fit. I have had it since it came out a year ago and taken thousands of photo's. Get a 512mn compact flash and you can taken 148 photos at 6mb pixel. I have a 75-300mm USM telephoto and it is a great lens.

You won't disappointed with the performance and image quality of the Rebel. The only draw back is the flash; some lens (not the kit lens) will block it and leave a dark semi-circle at the bottom of the image.

Question; is she looking for a "35mm" style camera? For less money you can get the G5 which has all the features of the Rebel, including great image quality, in a smaller package. It's also a great closeup camera with top of the line optics.
