oak treads stained brown

Hi all i have oak treads that were under the carpet.The problem is it is stained brown is there a way to get it back to original?thank you

Without knowing what the stain is it is hard to suggest a course of action.

Sanding, bleaching or cleaning are a few options. It is possible the stain is just ground in dirt from the carpet. Post a picture and you will likely get some better ideas.

A chemical stripper will remove the old finish and probably the old stain.
