Hey guys!!!

Late;y all of my shop time has been spent working 'on my shop' as opposed to working 'in my shop'. I am nearing completion of most, if not all of the big shop projects. I still have to fully implement my dust collection. ANd build a flip top cart for my 13" planer and either my 16" scroll saw or a belt sander...

Anyway... I while back I asked for some aftermarket TS fence upgrade advice. Long story short, I purchased the Delta T2-30. I had numerous install hurdles. I had to get VERY creative with some Aluminum angle.

So here are some pics of my new table saw/routing center. I plan on getting the Freud router that allows for above table bit changes and heights adjustment. I also have yet to build a router table fence. Other than that, it is fully operational. I still haven't organized everything quite the way I want it, but so far it has made some big projects MUCH easier. I broke down full sheets of plywood (with in/out feed roller support of course) in maybe 30-45 minutes.

So here are the pics...

I built this from plan found in the Shop Notes book called Table Saw Secrets. I modified several steps to suit my own needs. The plans called for the table heights to be set by cutting the side pieces perfectly. Now I have been getting much more patient and of course much better with my accuracy... However, if I was off by a 1/16" or even a 1/32" it might as well be a 1/2" off. So I under cut the sides by 1/8" and fastened some aluminum angle to sit just above the top of the side pieces. I tapped 5/16"-18 tpi threads and used Hex cap socket screws as levelers. THe plans also called for fastening the table tops with wood screws. The entire project is made of MDF, which all know is the BEST screw holder, right??? No way!!! SO, I went overboard with 1/4"-20 tpi threaded inserts. I drilled slightly oversize holes and epoxied them in place. (About 25 in all!!!). The top is two pieces of MDF with countertop laminate on both sides. I also added the wicked sweet Aluminum Diamond Plate for sheer coolness.

As mentioned above, the fence installation required MUCH thought and clever use of Alum Angle. I'll add pics later. Basically I took one piece and bolted it to the inside. This allowed me to 'extend' the face (thickness) of my saws CI top. Then I had to do a similar feat to extend the thickness of the MDF top's to the left and right of the saw.

To summarize, it was a BLAST to built, and even more fun to use.

Thanx,

You picked a good one.

I was "on the fence" about building that same cabinet, things changed and I went with one of shop notes older styles.

I really like your use of the diamond plating.

2 Thumbs up for a job well done.
I myself am a self confessed Woodshopaholic, it's been awhile since I built a "real" furniture piece:o

Michael, it looks like you are certainly making the best of your space. I commend you on that!

I also can simpathize on spending more time working ON the shop than working IN/WITH it. I am, without a doubt, still doing that. I just can't wait to get back to the "real" wwing....

That's pretty awesome! Should be very useful.

I'm mad now. I am in the middle of building a tablesaw/routing center using the same concept. And here you go making a really nice, first-class unit that would make mine look like junk. Looks like I may have to start over now.
You have created a fine-looking unit that would save a lot of space.

Looks good. I'm sure glad to see someone else with less than "god-like" equipment. I get depressed seeing all the high end gear here
