So finally I get to post this monster. I guess this would be my "Art piece" but it could have a utilitarian function also... you could use it as a night light.:D

Certainly a unique piece. My first impression is that it's too "busy," but I'll have to think on it some . . .

Brian, you put a lot of thought into the art piece - very interesting, with a lot going on. I like the pic with the light on!

On the bowl, I think it may be spalted maple, but I don't see any Ambrosia signs. There would be holes and multi color stains. Nice work!

Oh...I am so impressed!!!!:)

I'm of the personality that would buy something like that and stick it on my desk and play with it all day. (maybe it's a latent infant thing from my crib days???)

I like the bowl too....but the true test is....how much ice cream will it hold?

Like John said, you certainly did put a lot of thought into this piece. You've got a very active imagination and are able to go the distance with it. Nice work!
The utility bowl has a nice smooth form and a really nice piece of maple.
Thanks for joining the challenge.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I highly recommend that you download a copy of this Art piece and zoom in with something like photoshop.

It gets more impressive, the closer you look!!

Well, it certainly is unique and you have an incredible imagination.

I think I would have to see it in person and study it before I could make an intelligent evaluation. Wood turning in general is tuff to put on a 2D screen and this piece is almost impossible.

Brian - nice bowl! Beautiful wood and finish!

Really like your artistic nightlight! Makes me think of something from a Tim Burton movie - really cool stuff! Would take a while to really check this piece out in person because of all the different little details!

Very impressive composition! Love the imagination! Thanks for sharing!

A very interesting art piece... It's not my normal cup of tea, but I admire the creativity and execution.

The candy dish is lovely.

Nice bowl.

Your art piece is very interesting. It has a lot of energy to it. Kinetic might be the word I am looking for. It almost seems like certain pieces want to move around and change positions. Well done.

OK - I did what John advised and downloaded the photos and took a look around with PhotoShop. Boy! A lot of work went into this. A lot of intricate and interesting pieces and some beautiful workmanship.

But . . . it's still too busy for my taste. There's so many different things to look at and wonder about that you soon lose the sense of the "forest" for analyzing all the "trees."

JMO. But, then, that's why we post these things, isn't it?
