Another site is having a contest for pen turners. I decided to submit the first pen I did. It was turned this past March. They require a method of display, so I turned a stand that - at least in my mind - has the feel of an old ink bottle.
The pen is Brazilian Cherry, Americana Rollerball, finished with two coats of a brew of Shellac and bees wax. I wanted the oils of my hands to be able to get into the wood. It appears to have worked. The Cherry is much darker than when I turned it. BTW, I use it on a daily basis.
The base is a piece of Walnut I had left over from a candle holder I made last week and is finished with six hand rubbed coats of Zinsers French Polish. Pictures on the candle holder later.
Just thought it might interest someone.
