Here is another piece I finished recently. This piece is made from buckeye burl and is hollowed to approximately 3/16" thick. It measures 8" in diameter and 10 3/4" tall. Finished with several coats of gloss WOP. Your comments and critique are always welcome. I hope you will all excuse the flood of postings. I was asked to be the featured artist for June at Gallery 726 and had to get these done in time.

Thanks, Ken

Now, this one is special!!! Drop dead gorgeous wood, love the rim treatment, and the piece has a lot of intrigue to it. Really nice!

And, I suspect a little teeth clenching was going on while turning it, too!;)

Ken - I really like doing hollow forms because you can create things that no one else can - when the wood cooperates! You managed to pull off a one-of-a-kind form here that you should be proud of!

Excellent form - beautiful wood! Couldn't ask for anything more!

Congrats on being a featured artist at Gallery 726! Hope it leads to many more openings! Here's the website: http://gallery726.com/

Dazzling piece Ken. The wood, of course, is awesome, but I am particularly fond of the form. Very nice.:)

that is a nice burl, nice job with the shape and the piece itself. Must have been somewhat challenging.

Wow, what a turning, and congratulations on being the featured artist (well deserved) What an interesting hunk of wood and the form is exceptional. That piece would have never had a chance of staying together on my lathe:D. Speaking for myself, and I bet most others, not even close to tiring of your posts. Best of luck!!

That's one of the neatest HF's I've seen here in a long time. I could stare at that piece of wood for hours.

Ken,
As has been said, everything about that piece is beautiful, the overall form, the rim detail (I'm partial to similar treatments at rim), capturing enough of the burl void to draw the eye around the piece without being so much it takes away from shape, and a wonderful finish.
I've got a couple smaller pieces of BB stashed away...but good golly man, that was a big chunk to start with!! Perhaps I could attempt a 'mini-HF' like that, but can't imagine cost to buy a chunk that large.

Congrats on gallery entry and fantastic job on so many pieces.

This is... well... it's just a fantastic piece of work. Amazing piece of wood and the form just makes me.. OK, not going there! But I love the way the rim is broken by the void in the wood. Gives it an "ancient" feeling like something that was found in an archeological dig...
