Does anybody have a method for plugging a funnel?

Short of firewood, I'd like to try a fix on a hole at the bottom of a real nice red gum bowl. Any ideas, anyone?:o:(

Harvey I have did a couple of these that were to nice to let go. I chuck them up in my donut chuck and get it square. I then flatten the bottom. Once that is done I take a contrasting piece of wood that has been joint. I use Titebond III since it is waterproof. I glue it and bring the tailstock up as a clamp. When dry I turn a tenon so I can finish the inside then finish the bottom.

Looks to me like the makings for an excellent pedestal bowl.

Bernie,

If I understand correctly....you flatten the bottom...glue your contrasting wood....bring up the tailstock to pressure clamp...then turn a tenon to reverse the bowl....then try not to make another funnel!

Do I understand mostly?

Thank you, Bernie.

And, make sure the grain on the new bottom is running with the grain of the bowl!!

I agree with Frank - would be a great time to turn a pedestal! Could just glue a quarter in it to show the year it was turned!

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
