After 42 years of teaching, today was my last official day. The last week has been bitter-sweet. I still love teaching, but things happen and I know this was the right decision at the right time for me. I'm looking forward to the first sub-zero day with cutting winds, driving snow and slick roads when school is in session. I'll just turn over in bed and snuggle next to LOML. I'm looking forward to spending time with friends and family, working on the house, building the furniture LOML has wanted and traveling. I will continue my work with MS and HS sports, and take a more active part in my church. It seems like I have about 36 hours of activities planned for tomorrow. My retired friends tell me every day is like this. I'm going to love it.:D:D:D

Congratulations Ron! I'm at 188 days and counting.
Most of my friends that have retired say they are busier than ever.

Thats GREAT! Hope you have a good retirement.

I retire tomorrow myself. Well..Kinda. Getting terminated after 24 years of service. Company sold out. :( TOO young to retire but kinda excited to find another job.

Ron, I feel like Ken - teaching is not what it used to be, and putting in 42 years may qualify you for a metal!! Congrats.

Dave, hate to hear about your situation, but sounds like you have a positive attitude about it.

Congrats Ron and welcome to the Retirement Club. All you have to remember is that EVERY day is a Saturday.

Congratulations Ron! Did the same thing 3 years ago. Get a lot of shop time. It's good for anything that ails you.

Way to go!
When I was working I thought I would enjoy retirement.
Now that I'm retired, I KNOW I do!:D

Did the retirement thing 4 months ago myself. You will soon wonder how you had time to fit a teaching job into your busy schedule! Good luck!

you have sooooo many things to do. Wait, I'll get to that later, I have plenty of time. I find I have to make a list and stick to it to get everything done. Busy, busy, busy :D. You'll like retirement a lot.

My advice is not to make any new commitments to organizations and activities until a few months have passed. The sense of having free time adjusts itself to your situation. When you first retire, you may feel that you have too much free time, but after you adjust to that, even a modest number of weekly obligations will make you feel that you are too busy.

Congratulations Ron. You will soon find that you don't know when you ever had time to work. I like the way Tony looks at it, "everyday is Saturday".

Ron, when I read "take a more active role in my church", I miss-read it as "take a more active role in my couch" and I thought "there's a man with proper priorities"...

Congratulations on your first of many years of retirement........Rod.

Congratulations, Ron. I admire people who devote their lives to teaching. My wife did and loved it and is now retired. I tried for 4 years and hated it and got out. If you did it for 42 years, you must love the challenge and the kids. Enjoy your well deserved retirement.
