Hi...I am changing arbor bearings in a Delta Contractors saw model 34-444. What I want to know is just how tight is a press fit? The reason I ask is that after pressing out the arbor I can press the new bearing in with my fingers. It is a Delta replacement bearing for my type saw. There are no wear marks on the old bearing or in the casting where the bearing seats. The new bearing has no discernible play in the casting. I was expecting a press fit to be more friction that I got. But then again...what is the wavy washer for if the bearing isn't subject to moving along the arbor's length? Thanks for any help.

A press fit is tighter than you will push on by hand.

That doesn't mean that the bearing is wrong, you would need to check the specs to see what it calls for. Maybe it is supposed to be like that, although I can't think of any reason why.

When in doubt, measure them. Get a dial caliper and check outside dimensions. Most likely your bearings are 6203's, which have an outside diameter of 35 mm.
