These are two lidded pots or jars I turned from a piece of Mesquite that Ernie Nyvall sent me. It's my first time turning Mesquite and it sure is some nice wood to work with, and it smells great too.
The jars are 6" x 5" and 3.75" x 5". There was a little ring shake in the wood as Ernie forwarned me it worked out nice using sanding dust and CA as a filler in the cracks. The lids are one piece and line up with the grain in the pot. The first pic is the side with the windshake cracks, the second is the other side.

Excellent work Curt! Love the form and the raised lip area! Really nice work turning the top out of a section of the same wood! Love how the grain aligns!

Very nice Curt - very nice!

Those are way pretty Curt. Y'all got no mesquite in Utah? That's ok cause you have some other nice wood.

Curt, you make some of the neatest boxes!! I really need to try some of these, and the mesquite is a perfect match. Hope to get a chunk in today from a fellow creeker - but, I think it is dedicated to a HF or two.;)

I will have to check my wood stash for some good wood for these lidded boxes - very nice!

Very nice boxes, classic shape. Sure makes you want to open one and have a hand full of chocolate.

Beautiful pieces Curt. I love the method you chose of fitting the lid to the body. Really adds another dimension to the form...Bill..

Beautiful turnings. Don't know which I like better, jellybean or M&M.

Can you detail your finish? I have lots of mesquite and like how you brought out the natural shades of the wood grain.

Thanks all you guys!

Antonio, I applied a good soaking of Watco danish oil, let it soak in for about an hour and then wiped it off. Then I sprayed a couple coats of deft semi-gloss rattlecan lacquer. It's a little to shiney for my liking so I'll probably hit it with a scotchbrite pad and some wax to dull it down a little.

I doan see no steenking cracks...

I love the smaller box. Something about that form that just "gets it right".
