Been on the hunt for oilstones, it seems most do not carry them anymore.

Any suggestions on where to look?

Tools for working wood has the Norton Arkansas oilstones; Hall's ProEdge and Dan's carry their own Arkansas stones.

completely forgot about Hall's and Dan's. don't ask me how. Looked at the ones on TFWW but wanted a bit thicker than 1/2 inch. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Dave,

Hall's is really first rate, but if you want a nice translucent, I think the 3/4" (8"x2") stone that Joel sells is about the best. Norton seems to have a better supply of the translucents (at least my experience). It all depends what you are looking for...I also have a hard black from Hall's (8"x3"x1" size) and it is very nice, but if I had to have one fine stone the Norton would be it.

If I were starting out again, I would get the Chris Pye kit of 2 stones that Joel sells...the combo India and translucent, plus a stop. You'd be set for a couple of lifetimes with that group.

Ragnar at Ragnar's forge has some stones too.

He's highly regarded by the knife community.

+1 for Halls pro edge. Very happy with 2x8 soft, hard, and black stones.
