I am building a platform bed with a base of 1x6. I have mitered the corners at 45 degrees but would like to build without gluing the joints. My first option is to put a support block in the joint and screw both boards to it. Also thought some sort of hardware could be used.

The reason I don't want to glue the joints is that it is going into a loft which I will probably have to move in the future and will need to disassemble it.

Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

In the old "Waterbed Warehouse" furniture days they used door hinges. Squared blocks and screws would provide a better chance of a good appearance. I probably would have skipped the miter profile for pieces that are built to breakdown.

You could use the first thing on this page: http://wwhardware.com/catalog.cfm/GroupID/Fasteners%20%26%20Screws/CatID/Bed%20Fittings/showprod/1

These would allow you to disassemble the bed without using tools, and would allow many re-assemblies without the danger of stripping the holes.

I've done this with the hardware Jamie linked to:
http://wwhardware.com/showimage.cfm?type=spec&productid=SYK74%204U
but instead of trying to set the hardware in the faces of the miters, I used a corner block (an idea you already had). I put the hardware on the sides of the bed rails instead of the ends, very close to the "short point" of the miter. The mating halves of the brackets were let into the corner blocks. When you knock the rails and corner blocks together, it sucks the miter up pretty tight.

David, thanks. The hardware wouldn't work on my miter joints directly (3/4" thick) but excellent idea to attach them to the support blocks.
