Lowes has a Porter Cable 14 in. band saw #PCB330BS on sale for $369. Is this saw worth it? I'm unable to figure out its horsepower. Seen it referred to as both 3/4 hp and 1.5 hp.

Where have you seen 3/4? From memory the PC site just mentions current draw and the Lowes site says 1 1/2 no?

I believe I picked it up on another board. I may be mistaken. Went back today and it went up to $409, so I guess I missed the deal anyway.

Black and Decker bought them out, and I would be quick to say that it's made overseas in China so the quality might be suffering. I wouldn't use one for professional woodworking - I'm no professional but I don't know what your skill level is. Just my 2c.

You can get the Lowes 10% "moving" coupon that gets the price down to almost the same thing.

As for being Chinese, no doubt it is but unless you plan to spend 1300-1400 dollars for a new 14" saw then its going to be made in Asia. I have no question that it can be turned into a 1st rate saw, by upgrading it over time. I wouldn't expect it to stand up to production shop use but then again I wouldn't expect anyone with a production shop to be looking to buy it. I think this is the best "local" bargain you can get on a new BS and comes pretty close to the Grizzly line of Delta "clones" in bang for the buck.
