I've been interested in getting into turning and have come across a Nova lathe that is missing the motor. The price seems right, but I am not sure how much a new motor will cost. I am OK with an aftermarket motor, such as a Grizzly, but I am not sure if one of those will work with a lathe. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

Go to the Teknatool website and download the owners manual for the 1624. Somewhere in the first couple pages it lists the specs you need to look for in a motor. If Im not mistaken these laths are sometimes sold without a motor.

Does it come with both step pulleys ?

Here's a post showing not only a good motor to use, but how to install a VFD as well.

P.S. Be sure to read through this well, cuz there are a couple details that didn't make the conversion 100% "plug and play".
