View Full Version : Custom-Fit Respirators?

Through the miracles of genetics (and helped by my brother inadvertently breaking my nose as a kid), I have a boney hump in my nose that makes it next to impossible to get a good seal around my nose.

I always use those 3M disposable masks with the metal strip around the nose. They work okay, buy some stuff still gets by between the nose and the cheek (and air gets out there to fog up my safety glasses.) When spray canning the other day with my AOSafety canister respirator, I could tell by the odor that I was getting a little bypass as well.

They make custom-fit ear moulds by injecting stuff into your ear to make a mould. Does anybody do the same for respirators/dust masks? (ie. make an alginate mould of the lower part of your face). I'd love to be able to get something that fits me properly, than find out in 20 years that I need to wear a respirator every day.
