Turned a oak bowl with some spalt in the sap wood, turned wet 9.25" round by 4" in height wall thickest is 1/4". after bowl dried it warp to a nice oval shape 9.75" x 9". finished with wipe on poly.(oops my mistake,oak not elm sorry)

Jeff, really a nice job of centering up the grain, and the spalting adds a little character! Very nice job, and a good looking bowl. I have not yet turned elm, but understand when it is dry, it can be a little bit on the hard side.

Great job on this piece. With the rays and the grain it makes me think it's oak. Thanks for posting.

Jeff, nice bowl! I love the way the rays bisect the lip. The spalt zones really make the bowl stand out.

BTW, that is oak, not elm. Elm has wavy bands in the latewood, and the rays are not prominent like oak, beech, and sycamore. Beautiful bowl all the same!

Great looking bowl! If you hadn't stated it was Elm - would have sworn it was Oak! Great looking grain and color!

warped nicely, didn't crack (at least, I don't see any cracks). nice bowl. oak has great grain.
