shelf nosing for long shelf spans

At what length should a 3/4" BB ply shelf have nosing on front and back for support? I am looking to build cabs with 46 1/2" shelves on shelf pins. I was going to use poplar for nosing, is one in front enough or should I double up? Thanks Eric

Hi Eric, the answer to your question depends upon your answers to the following 3 questions..

How much weight per shelf are you designing for, is it evenly distributed, and what is the design value of the shelf sag you can accept?
