A couple of month's ago I harvested/reclaimed some pear (Bradford and Asian) that were victims of Hurricane Ike. Finally, after receiving the 3rd notice from the homeowner's association threatening suit if I didn't remove the logs from the driveway...

The three 3 photos are: (1) Bradford Pear (spalted on ground for 16 months); (2) Bradford Pear (standing alive with top of tree sheared clean off); (3) Asian Pear (spalted on ground fro 16 months)

This is what the Bradford Pear looks like!!!!!! I turned 3 sets of bowls that I cored and one hollow form has been started. I will upload a set of the nested bowl next.

Edward, that is some gorgeous wood! From the first pics, the Asian Pear looks as if it may even be better!! Looking forward to more pics.

The set is 11" x 6" with the smallest at 4" x 2.5"

I finally found a reason to break in the McNaughton

Bernie,

I was giddie when I cut into it with the chain saw and then I got it on the lathe. I haven't even touched the top of the tree that sheared off...it is fiddleback with continuous curl every 1/4".

Bradford Pear has just climbed to top of my local wood list right beside Mulberry. Huisache is a solid 2nd.

Edward that is some beautiful wood.

The Bradford Pear is great. Don't you like the way it finishes. My wife is the one getting after me to clean the driveway of all the wood, but the neighborhood association may be next. The coring looks great. I have had several 20" bowl sections and it would be nice to have. Still have a couple to address "tomorrow".

Wonderful looking stuff... I absolutely love turning pear. It turns like butter. I'm excited to see what it looks like in the spalted sections.
