Last month while I was in Indy, Al gave me a short log that he said was butternut. I sealed the ends because it looked like it had started to split. When we got back to Longview I decided I needed to take care of this wood before it was lost. I managed to get four bowls. Two fairly large and two not so large. The figure and color on this wood is outstanding.

This picture was taken after the first coat of my finish of choice, Rockler gel polyurethane.

The bowls were roughed out on the 4th and 5th and soaked in alcohol over night. The two in front were finished turned on the 14th, left rear bowl on the 15th and the right rear bowl was finished turned on the 17th.

Those bowls are Definitely Worth the Effort. Now I'm going to have to find some Butternut. I believe that I heard that it is wonderful to turn, too.

That is a Great job and you just got to love working with butternut.
I have not tried turning any but I have built a couple of small items with it.
Keep up the good work and keep the pics coming ---we enjoy them.
