View Full Version : First Try at “Inside Out” Turning

This is my first effort at an inside-out turning. Being an ornament was an after thought. I had turned the inside and reversed and turned the outside of the inside section to see what it would look like then I asked myself what was it going to be so to keep it simple I added the ball at the top and cropped the bottom and finished it with CA and Hut Crystal Coat. After finishing I added small pieces of 7mm brass tubing to each end and installed mini ornament hardware. The wife likes it even though the bottom metal finial is a little crooked. Since it was just a try at ISOT I didn't bother hanging it for the photo.:)
The wood is black walnut. With the hardware it is 5-5/8” tall by 1-13/16 at its largest diameter.

Very good 1st try James. Like Steve said, it certainly looks like youve got it figured out. That is one of my need to try list items.

That's cool... Another thing on my list of things to try. I hope one of my first dozen attempts looks as good as your first.

Really nice ornamanet JD! Didn't you just ask about inside out turning a few days ago? And now you seem to have it perfected, WOW!

As a matter of fact I did say something about it sounding Impossible.:o But once you realize how it is done it then seems so simple.
Thanks everyone one for your encouraging comments.:)
