Need some help, Im finishing my basement and have one post that I need to box in. My display case and all the trim is maple so I will be using maple to make the box. I want a tight fit around the post so it dosent stand out like a thumb. The post is 3" I will use 3/4". My question is what type of adhesive will have a tight bond with the wood and the metal post. I was told to make a 3 sided box and set it around the post, before adding the 4th side spray foam inside and i that would hold it tight around the post. I have kids and i'm sure over time they will push and pull on it, I dont want it to spin. any help I thank you Rich

The spray foam is likely a much stronger set up than any glue. That stuff hardens up like a rock. You could also set a couple pins into the pole so that it can't rotate once the foam is in.

Epoxy is great for bonding unlike materials. There are also several polyurethane glues that work.

Do you have enough room to add a "cleat" to the top and bottom? You could screw it in to the floor (or beam). Then attach your sides to the cleat. Maybe?

(I actually didn't screw mine down. The column can spin a little bit, but due to the molding it doesn't move more than a fraction of an inch).

My brother and I have used this contact cement for about 10 years to
stick metal casino chips on clocks and tables.

One time I used J-B Weld.

I've used construction adhesive with success.

Very nice looking column cover. What did you put on the metal itself?(red stuff)

I think that was just paint put on by the previous owner. The other post was all grey.
