That's a lot of wood for a woodchuck to chuck.....

Yes I know the difference between a woodchuck and a beaver.

What exactly is a woodchuck? I do not think we have those out here in the wild west.

Wow, it's a slow morning at the office when I ask questions about mammals on a WW forum.

A woodchuck is a localized term for a groundhog, like the famous one at Punxsutawney that if he sees his shadow or not tells us how long winter will last every February 2.

Zach,

Think of a woodchuck as the eastern version of a marmot except woodchucks don't whistle.

Is it true that Marmots whistle because they don't know the words...?

Zach,

Actually woodchucks or ground hogs (Marmota monax) do whistle, just not as often as their western cousins. The Woodchuck often gives a loud, sharp whistle, followed by softer ones as it runs for its burrow, from which it then peeks out. When agitated, it chatters its teeth, and it can hiss, squeal, and growl.

I don't know about seeing it from space. It just seems to me every country has to have something so big it can be seen from space. Frankly I am getting tired of hearing the phrase. It is one thing to know what the Bingham Copper Mine, the Great Wall of China is and spot it, but I doubt that with all the things on the earth someone is going to see a tiny blip of green and wonder what it is.
