Has anyone used a vacuum regulator in place of the customary ball or gate valve to vary vacuum in your chucking system? If so please provide make and model. Thanks

Nick The ball valve with a vacuum gage works so well, don't see any advantage for a regulator. Most vacuum pumps are constant displacement so regulator woulds still need let in bleed air for the vacuum pressure to be constant.

Nick,
I've had such great luck with a simple 1/4 turn ball valve before the gauge, that I have not seen any reason for going otherwise. I have additional pics of my 1642 vac mod here:

Maybe not what you were looking for, but works great !!

I agree with Dick and Dan. I use the ball valve and don't see any reason to go to a regulator.
