I was very nervous turning this piece. Patience is also not my strong suit, but I held myself in check as much as I could because I wanted this to come out as well as I was capable of making it. Another Aussie burl, topped with a small Honduran Rosewood collar (unable to make a finial of this - kept breaking) and a Cocobolo finial. 2 wheel buffed, not yet waxed. About 6.5 inches tall and about 4.75 wide, overall. Whew!

Mike, man is that some beautiful wood!! Very nice job on this one, and I like the finial work, too. You need to try some of that blackwood on the next finial. I think you will like it.

Those Aussie burls are like concrete - you deserve a medal on this one!!

A beautiful form for some beautiful wood. Well done, Mike.
My only critique would be about the finial. I'd like to see it thinner, more delicate at the straight portion, but that's just my preference.

A different shape; I like it. And, of course, I never met an Aussie Burl I didn't like.

Really nice Mike! I love the wood in the hollow form, but agree with John that a dark finial contrast might highlight the burl better.

Beautiful wood and nice form. The 'pucker factor' is always a little higher with expensive pieces of wood like that.

I agree with the others about the finial... thinner and contrasting would be my vote for the finial and perhaps the collar as well.
