A lot of weeping birch trees in town have been dying. I drove by one that was cut down to the bole for several weeks and didn't stop, the next time I saw it, the chipper was there. This time I made time to knock on the door and the family told me I could have it. The best part was that all the branch has been cut off and removed. I am trying to spalt some, the rest I am roughing out bowls from. Lots of wood for two hours of chain saw work.

Good gloat Randy, and good luck with the spalting. Have seen some incredibly beautiful spalted birch pieces, so maybe yours will be too.

Nice haul Randy! We don't have much white birch of large size in Indiana, but I just got some last month, and have roughed out 3 bowls so far. It is a pleasure to turn.
