Here are a few bowls my students just finished. A big thank your to the members that donated tools to our shop. They where key in giving my students enough to go around with the new lathes we bought with the AAW grant money. The boxes are turned from some old half logs of cherry and maple I found behind the shop. They had a moister content of around 11% and worked out great for my students to make some nice size boxes.

This is a cherry box that one of my students made. It has rhododenron burl insert in the top where I poked two holes thru it checking the moister content. I gave him a nice piece of my burl to make it better than it was before the my brain cramp.

Excellent work! Your students should all be proud of their accomplishments! Not everyone can turn!

Thanks for sharing!

Those look great. They're sure getting to work with some nice looking wood. I especially like both of the boxes, but I'm a sucker for a good looking lidded box.

Tell your kids they should be very proud of what they turned. All are really well done.

Thanks everyone. Some of these students are doing great when you consider that they have only been turning for a couple of months and most are 15 and 16 years old.
Thanks again,
Jack

Nice work by all involved. I wish my HS shop teacher had been a turner. Great guy, but it seems the tools got sharpened once per semester, so the lathe projects I did back then were not real fun. Your students are turning out great work and I suspect they're having fun doing it. Kudos to you.
