We had a big horse race in Hot Springs recently. I made to look like a winning trophy cup might. The cup walls are about 1/16" at the top and 1/8" at the bottom. The cup is about 10 inches tall and 6 inches in diameter.

Please give me your comments and suggestions.

Thanks, Ken

Ken, what kind of wood did you use - that burl is beautiful!! Very sleek appearance, and great finish.

Typically, trophy cups have handles on either side and a heavy base - an overall heavy look. But, I don't think that would work here, and what you have done picks up the suggestion of a trophy cup very well.

It's beautiful. I like the incorporation of the burl sphere in the base. Really pretty wood and nice shape.

Very nice shape and I love the little burl detail in the stem. Of course, if you made it out of rosewood you could call the race the "run for the rosewood" :) Ha, an old KY boy had to make a reference to the Derby.

great wood and proportions look spot on. I have seen people pud handles on their vase's, pretty sure you could do it with this, I have no idea how but it's definitely possible.

really nice work, Ken! I think that it looks a tiny bit top heavy, but pictures often don't reproduce the feel of a piece in your hands. A black rim on the bottom would change the proportions, but I don't know if you would want to change it at this point; its beautiful.

Beautiful wood and color contrast. The winner will definitely cherish that prize.

I forgot to mention that the cup is made from maple burl and the stem is ebony. Thanks for all the nice compliments. This is not a prize for the horse races, just my interpretation of a trophy cup. I had thought of adding handles but thought it would make the piece look too heavy.

Very nice cup - especially the stem - but I think the top is too large. JMO
