Huh? Amazon has a used hard cover for $17.
I've been very happy buying used books on Amazon.

I don't understand why some are so expensive.

I got mine for $8.00 at my local Half Price Books.

That's a great find. What is the difference in editions? Does one have color photos? I found an older copy hardcover and all photos are black and white which really doesn't do the wood colors he describes justice.

Can you imagine paying $170 for this book used? What on earth are people thinking when they list a price like that, and to think if someone actually paid that, good god people. James would be crawling in his grave.

well...used for 17 or new for 16.15.... tough call.

The hard covers are what are bringing in the money. I hunted around and the best I found before this was used for 35 bucks.

Ebay had them anywhere between around 40 bucks and 180 dollars.

Either way, this is a great price. This store doesnt know what they have.

This a joke or an insanity. Amazon brings up:

2 new from $419.89 2 used from 564.04

I'll buy new and save $144!

I'm pretty sure I paid less than cover price for this a couple of years ago.

sorta my thoughts too Brian... I have the other two books...easy to find. This one though... I just kinda let out a jaw dropping laugh of WTF !!!!

So I dug around.

I will let you guys know the condition and what not when it gets here next week...

She told me it was brand new and that nobody ever calls about these books....

I was looking for " Worker In Wood" and places like Amazone wanted well, to much... I found one for $12 at an antique tools dealer on the net... have a look, http://www.grandapastreasures.com/books1.htm
Still looking to find "With Wakened Hands" also by Krenov's

When some books go out of print the prices go ridiculously high... and since the books usually seem to stay up for sale for a long time I'm not so sure they're really selling at those prices.

I always recommend trying http://www.worldcat.org/ to anyone that's looking for books. Often it will show that it's available from a library that's not too far away, especially when it's something as common as Krenov's books.

Supposedly they are going to be printing a batch of "The Fine Art" sometime in the near future due to the high demand. This is what my local book store found out when trying to find me a copy. But lukily I ran across a hard cover copy for pretty much free. A good friend of mine had it and is not a big Krenov fan. It was printed in 1977 and is in perfect shape as I don't beleive he ever read through it. He may ask me a small favor sometime in the near future for the gift. Just be patient and there will be some copies available.
