I've turned this spalted maple vase (I just snapped a quick photo to attach) and now need to apply a finish. I really don't want to 'amber it up' too much. Btw it stands about 10" tall by 4.5" in diameter. Any and all suggestions gratefully received!

Thanks
Michael

I love the vase... I would think lacquer would be a reasonable choice.

Sure is pretty! If you are worried about amber color - then you can go with lacquer or a water-based poly.

Nice work on the vase!

Thanks guys. I'm thinking about a water-based lacquer but have been struggling with it on another piece.

The best part of this vase is that the wood along with a bunch more was destined for a friends wood furnace. He's had most of it stored in his basement for aver 10 years and finally decided that turning really wasn't his thing. He offered it to me and I gladly accepted. My poor Cavalier almost didn't make it out of his laneway with the load I had in it:eek:

Once I get it finished I'll spend a little time to take a decent photo and post it here.

I definitely would use lacquer for that one.
