Am finishing a spalted cherry stopper, have about 20 hours before the birthday party. The wood is solid, not strongly spalted, somewhat porous perhaps? Just not sure if there's anything I should put on it first besides the usual washcoat of shellac. Opinions for a finish??

mineral oil and a touch of beeswax for shine. never used it for a stopper, but no reason it shouldn't work just fine.

Jamie all of my stoppers get a lacquer finish. It is tough and you can put several coats on in a hour. I normally put 3 to 4 on. Have never had a finish problem with them.

Multiple coats of spray lacquer, about 30 minutes between coats. Leave several hours for last coat to cure.

Edit: Beat me tuit Bernie.

OK, so it sounds like nothin' different just because of the spalting. Thanks!
