Hard for me to not pick the walnut bowls!! I just looooove walnut! But, those maple bowls are certainly fine as well. Very nice work on all of these.

Nice bowls. I just started turning, so the natural edge facinates me. How do you turn a bowl like this without damaging the bark on the edge?

The other question I have is even though the wood is flipped 180 degrees from normal, do you still turn the outside from bottom to top and the inside from top to bottom? It seems like this is still correct.

Nice looking bowls. I don't have a favorite as they all look good.

Rich, I'm no expert, but I've turned these just like any other bowl. As for the bark edge, sometimes there's nothing you can do to keep it on. One helpful tip... Always make the cuts at the bark edge from air to bark to solid wood whether you are on the inside or outside of the form. If you turn from wood to bark to air, you run the risk of lifting the bark off the edge of the bowl. Light cuts and sharp tools.

Nice work on all your bowls David! Really like the Maple - probably because of the curl!

All of them look great!

As impressive as the NE aspect and finishing and everything else is, I'm taken most by your curves - extremely "fair."

Very nicely done. I'm partial to the walnut myself but the maple with the curl is great too.

I like 'em all. NE work is a difficult and dangerous thing. (I have the scars to prove it) The maple is my favorite. Reminds me of a broken dinosaur egg.
