Guys,

I was looking for a vacuum pump and found this one on

http://stubbylatheusa.com/Online_Store/VacuumPumpStraightTalk.pdf (http://stubbylatheusa.com/Online_Store/VacuumPumpStraightTalk.pdf)

It is $175 which is more than Gast 0523 runs on eBay.
Which one is a better pump for the money?
Any advise is appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex

Alex - Welcome to the Creek!

Bernie Weishapl built his own system a couple of months ago using that same pump. Actually, he got all the components for the system from Tom Steyer: http://www.jtturningtools.com/

Check out Bernie's thread and hopefully he will jump on here and give you his impressions now that he has had it for a while. Here's the thread: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=134102

Steve is right. I bought my system thru Tom Steyer. The one reason is yes it does cost a little more but I got everything at one place and didn't have to hunt everything down. As for a vac pump it has worked extremely well for me. It has held everything I have thrown at it.

Bill Rubenstein of Stubbylatheusa was the guest demo at our club meeting last Wed. He brought one of the pumps and it looks very nice. I don't know much about vacuum chucking but Bill is very knowledgeable and seems to have lots of great and some inexpensive ideas on setting up a system.
