My garage door is about 9 years old and it had been making terrible noise when going up and down. I figured one or more rollers is bad.

I bought some steel rollers without realizing my current ones are nylon. I went ahead and put them in and most of the noise is gone.

What are the opinions on steel versus nylon rollers as I still need to replace a bunch more of them? The nylon rollers I replaced didn't seem to have bearings while the steel ones do have bearings.

The high quality nylon rollers with ball bearings have worked great for me. They were a bit quieter than the steel ones will ball bearings. The sleeved ones start out quiet but after a short while with a heavy door -- mine is 18' wide - the get noisy. The plastic rollers all have looked cheap

I actually picked up my nylon set on e-bay
