Neighbor is contemplating removing it. It's probably large enough to get some wood out of it. Just wondering what it is. I tried to run through some tree id websites, but didn't come up with anything that looks like a good match. I thought it might be walnut, but it doesn't bear any fruit.

It looks like it might be Ash.

Butternut?

I looked at ash and butternut and it just didn't seem to match.
Butternut leaves are pointed on the ends and have 11-19 leaflets. I count 9 leaflets on this tree.
Ash is still a possibility. But all the ash leaves I see are more pointed then the ones on this tree.

Leaves and bark are consistent with ash.

I know you've already determined it's ash, but just to confirm, the opposite branching gives it away. http://www.anr.msu.edu/robertsd/ash/ashtree_id.html
