First time ever trying a bowl.....and I mean ever

Found out that the lathe sure is wobbly haha.

It was fun, needs much improvement but I learned alot I think. I atleast will better understand the advice given here and elsewhere now that i've expierenced doing one.

I will go ahead and wrap it up and let it dry and see if it makes it the end of the process

Great result!! Sure is different than spindle turnin', ain't it!!:D;) That is kind of why I like doing the lidded hollow forms - kind of a combination of the two. Keeps the skills sharpened.

100% different!

More study, more reading, more questions and a ton more tryin' headed my way!

Your first bowl looks pretty good to me! Hope it makes it through the drying process! The walls look pretty even - so you shouldn't have a problem.

Heck of a nice job and with time and a ton of shavings, they just get better and better!

Nice first bowl. I really like how you kept the grain balanced and the curve is nice and true. Have fun with the next one, and the next and the next... Vortex.

Excellent first bowl. Nice wood and grain orientation and a graceful inside curve. Keep 'em comin'.

I will keep practicing, but I fully admit, I dont have the patience to do many bowls haha!

I turned a bell for my wife this afternoon and when I worked on it I was much better then I was this morning with regards to tool orientation to the wood etc. It will all come together in time:D

Looks good. You will probably soon find you can't wait to see what is inside that next piece of wood!

I think you did a nice job... especially for a first. You'll get faster as you keep turning these things.

Nice smooth curve and nice grain.

Great looking first bowl. YOu did not give the wood or size, but the relative shape tells me it is fairly deep compared to diameter and that is harder to do. Your interior and exterior lines flow well.

Now you are hooked.

That is a fine looking first bowl. Sure hope it makes it thru drying.

You guys are being too nice:D I do appreciate the kind words however, even my ego needs stroked here and there:p

I can see how bowls can become addicting, and maybe im in denial saying I dont plan on doing many haha! I will have to collect some more tooling, i'm working towards a bigger lathe and in the mean time will continue learning and viewing the masterpieces born here on the Creek!
