More from the firewood pile

Here are a couple of vases, both of Beech I robbed from my dads firewood pile. The tall one is 9"tall x 5"dia and the other is 8"tall x 7"dia. The tall one had a little boring grain so I lightly stained it with some Minwax Walnut stain then some BriWax and the other is just BriWax finish.

I guess it's what makes us root sometimes for the underdog...but I know I too really enjoy seeing pieces like that turned from what was destined for firewood.

There should be a universal proclimation, as a 'get green' initiative, to only allow stuff to go a fireplace that has first been offered to someone to turn. Ok, maybe that won't happen...but it's a thought.

Heaven knows we make enough of our own firewood from turnings that didn't go well or hoarding too long and finding deep cracks in those prized pieces you were 'waiting' to get to.

Nicely done...I like both pieces, but especially the smaller one. It has a unique shape and nice balance, and the spalting wood definitely makes any piece nice in my opinion.

Thanks for all the kind words. A gal at work just came in and had to have the spalted one and offered a good price for it, so it is down the road.

My firewood pile gets checked more carefully now I have started turning. Like the spalted one.
