Good Afternoon, I am in need of some Comp. help. My problem, I can watch One maybe two You Tube episodes, but I dare not watch Three conclusively. If I do the ole' comp. will slow down to a speed, which is slower than Dial Up. I have Hughes Net Internet service, which when running does great. we live 60 miles from the nearest store, so a DSL Line is way out of the question. When watching a turning vidio and it has Three or Four parts, I can not watch them on the same day. Thanks Marty

I've never had satellite Internet service. But it sure sounds you're being throttled, Marty. It's just like it sounds. After you download or watch two videos, your ISP is choking your connection which makes it impossible to watch another. After awhile, they reset your connection and give you back your full bandwidth; until you download two more videos.

I'm not aware of any other problem which would cause the symptoms you're describing.

go here and check your status. http://192.168.0.1/ If you have exceeded your limit there will be a red flag. Video will do that. Don't you just envy those with real broadband.

192,168,0,1 will take you into your router (probably) but will likely not tell you anything re, bandwidth usage, I don't think (unless I am missing something). Phone your provider to find out where you would get that info.

You don't need to download anything. Just click on "Begin Test". Try this before you watch two videos, then after. Dollars to doughnuts, your download speed will be significantly less after watching two videos.

That test will also eat up his bandwidth, possibly triggering the limit (if there is one, which it sounds like there is).

Double check your paperwork though... the commercials are always blabbing about the unlimited usage... If you are supposed to have unlimited usage I'd get on the phone and start barking :)

Does your internet connection in general slow down after two videos? Or is it just Youtube?

What OS are you running? How much RAM?

It could be your ISP. It could also be a matter of your system running out of system resources (cache that won't dump, memory leaks, browser, outdated flash...)

I would not be surprised if your ISP was in fact throttling back your bit rate. But two videos worth of data is a draconian.

I just want to say thank you to all. I will start with my ISP, and go from there, as far as other vidios, I get some in my e-mail, but they are short , they have never been a problem.

Sure it will. He said he's got Hughesnet. Their "modem" gives you all kinds of information. Unless of course he has his own router between the Hughesnet modem and his PC, which at least 4 years ago was not recommended.

Marty, it sounds pretty clear to me that you are hitting the FAP limit. Unless you really want to talk to someone in India today, not much point in calling Hughesnet. Assuming you have the basic home plan, you only get 200MB per day which is pretty easy to eat up.

And I was upset that I only get 2 Gig per day. Count your blessings I guess, its just that until I moved 7 months ago I had virtually unlimited bandwidth width comcast and the speed never fluctuated.

I also have hughes.net and ever now and then run into that problem
and what is happening is you are exceeding your Fair Access Policy limits.

You can check that by going to http://192.168.0.1 and checking.

Beginning the first of this year hughes.net has a once a month token
you can use that will instantly bring your speed back instead of having to wait the regular 24 hour period.

Go to http://services.hughesnet.com and you can find it you can find
the restore tokens.

As I said you get one free each month but you can also purchase one
for $7.50 which will be added to your monthly bill.

I hope this helps instead of having to call their customer service and
dealing with the customer service people that can hardly speak english let alone southern english (little humor there).:D:D:D
