Well I took the plunge and bought a Jet mini Lathe, wow nice little machine. Haven't used a lathe sence I was in high school , but still remember a few things.
I didn't think making pens would be so enjoyable , and my kids liked doing it too. My LOML can waite to get her Pefume atomizer . Got to make special stuff for her so I can buy new toys.
Now that I will be making pens I am looking for some good links to get supplies , not sure what type of pens yet but I am hoping that I can use the 7mm supplies (mandrel and bushing that I bought for first pens) to make others.
Also has anyone tried to turn bowls on a Jet mini as of yet , and did ti do a good Job?

i also have a jet mini, variable speed and extension bed. come to find out that i actually think i love turning. i have turned a few bowls, the largest about 8" diameter, but until the blank runs true, my lathe walks through the shop and vibrates like crazy. also. it's easy to just stop the motor. too sad. i'm in the market for a real lathe right now. i am thinking of a nova dvr 3000, there might be a nice gift under the tree this year.

The Jet mini is a wonderful machine. A while back I posted some pictures of some segmented turnings I turned at a class. These were 9 1/2" in dia. and from 7 1/2 to 12" tall depending on style. One of my classmates was a late commitment and he turned his on the Jet mini. So yes you can turn bowls and much more on that lathe. Anchor the sucker down though...

Sascha, I have the Nova and was lucky enough to acquire it used for an exceptional price, I mean dirt cheap. I love it and have found it to be an excellent tool for my purposes. I had to build a stand for it which I did out of laminated 2x's and it weighs more than the lathe. But mounted the tool is rock solid and turns well. I'm sure the experts will tell you differently but as a novice I am very satisfied. :D

If you have a delta or jet mini I suggest the bed extensions and the stand. Both will bolt right on and gives your machine much more weight as well as being more versatile.

I worked the heck out of a Jet Mini for about 2 years. Very good for the size.

You do good lookin' pens, too.

Good to know that I am not the only one to think that way.:)

Jim,

You couldn't have made a better choice. I have made well over 2,000 pens on my mini and lots of other small items including bowls. It still runs like a new one, but looks like a relic:) .
