In downtown Portland, a local station has setup a web cam on a Red-tailed hawk nest. It's fascinating to watch the parents feeding the chicks and fixing the nest.

Thanks for posting, Greg.

We have many red tails down here in our neck of the woods. One day I came out of the shop and one was perched on our chiminea near the patio. I was about 40 ft. away, and he/she decided I was too close and few off. They are beautiful birds.

One day at work, a couple of us were standing outside the shipping door. Next to us was a stack of old pallets, maybe four feet high. A Red-tailed hawk landed on the stack of pallets, not ten feet away. I just sat there looking at us and surveying the small, fenced parking lot. It sat there for several minutes before flying over to the fence and continuing its surveillance.

It was a pretty amazing experience. We are less than a mile away from downtown and in a light mix of of retail, commercial, residential neighborhood. In other words, plenty of noise and commotion during the day to scare off the bravest creatures.

I'm sure this hawk was not fully mature.

I thought this was going to be a post about mounting a camera on the popular R/C helicopter called the Raptor... :)
