I turned this bowl while taking my lessons from Bill Grumbine. It's the first bowl I've turned from wet wood to finished thickness, per Bill's instructions of course. I let it dry for ten days then sanded, BLO, and buffed out. It's shape is a far cry from other NE bowls I've done and quite an improvement IMO. This bowl is going to go to Robert McGowen for the upcoming charity event that he posted earlier this week.

3 3/4" at it's tallest and 7" at it's widest.

C & C are always welcome.

Great looking bowl Tony! Really nice to see all that curl inside the bowl! It should do quite well at the auction!

I have never been able to keep the bark on one like that. Nice job!

Tony, that is some beautiful maple! I think you did very well on this one, and it shows very well. Should do well in the auction!

Thanks gentlemen for the positive comments.

Robert, if you look carefully, not all the bark is still there. I ended up torching some of the rim too. From what I've been told the ability of the bark to remain on a turning like this depends on when the tree was felled. Felling a tree in the late fall and into the winter when the sap is not flowing increases the chances of keeping the bark on. I don't know if this is true or not, but it at least sounds reasonable.
