They all look great, Ron. Looks like the purpleheart was a little bit of trouble. Not sure you posted the Sierra pic you were trying to(it's the same as the purpleheart photo).

The reel seat is probably the most eye catching bit for me.

Didn't realize it ... can't figure out how to clear the photo management so uploaded from another site.

The PH was a major pain in my backside ... was months of efforts.

The reel seat is probably the most eye catching bit for me.
I had these pieces of spalted oak for a few months and never did anything with it because it was kind of blah looking ... the left over piece of the reel seat had a big spalted patch that fell out so I used some polymar clay, filled the hole and turned it as a test

This reel seat is a piece of cherry. What makes it amazing it is a piece of a 4"x4"x4' that lumber was shipped on and they throw this stuff away ...it's scrap.

A neighbor makes furniture in his garage since he was laid off work in this economy. Another neighbor works for a place that supplies Cabinet grade wood to shops. It is from here where this scrap wood comes from.

I have a piece on the lathe right now that will become a pen for a swap and I call it 'spalted cherry burl' whether or not that is the proper name for it is another thing .... I'll try and remember to post a pic if it turns out ok.

The Black Walnut pen I posted is also off a piece of scrap wood that lumber is shipped on.
