The first picture is of most of the elm burl I got today.
The second picture is a closeup of the burl points...
I wanted to get a look at the character before I decided whether or not to go back and get the rest. The last three are images of the white oak burl I'll get tomorrow.
I sanded this piece to 120 with a bit of oil. I imagine that the finished wood will ne outstanding... That burl is 50 inches high by about 5 feet across by at least 12 inches deep (and that's just the easy stuff).

That's some of the ugliest wood I've ever seen! I feel bad for you and am willing to take it off your hands and will even pay the postage! WOW, whatta great guy I am huh!
That is some awesome wood worth gloating about George, congrats and ENJOY!

George - Congrats on the wood! I am seriously looking forward to seeing what you turn out of everything! You consistently kick out amazing hollow forms - so you really have my attention!
Have fun with it!

Looks even better than when I saw that one piece last night.
You forgot to mention the free gift that came with the wood = a ~3/8" guide wire through the middle of it. Knowing you, you will probably manage to work the scrap metal into one of your pieces. ;)
How did your chain make out?

Burl City!!! Nice haul, George. That oak looks really nice, as well, but I bet the elm shows better. Looking forward to the creations.

I'll post the pictures of the Oak burl in a few, but thank you to everyone for your comments.
The Elm is not too ugly for me to keep, but thanks for the offer;)
The oak turns SO NICELY that I can't wait to get a couple of bigger pieces onto the lathe.

Great haul George. I'm sure you will do it justice.
If you can make the time to come down, and if you have a little room in the van, I think I might have a piece (or two) of each with your name on it.
