View Full Version : Owners: JET & Delta DCs With Cartidge

My homebrewed cartidge filter and enclosure is proving to be a pain on a Delta 1.5HP 50-850 DC.
It's now become a dust pump and I'm in the middle of a big project made out of MDF.
Is anybody using either JET's or Delta's cartridge filters?
What are its pluses?
Minuses?
How good a job is it doing?
Any and all help and insight will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Howard

Hi Howard,
A while back I detailed all the mods I made to my Delta 50-850 in this thread http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12507 The thread has lots of in-progress pics.
Here is a short version of what I did:
[1] Widened the main intake from 4" to 6";
[2] Added a ramp to the seperator to spin the air better;
[3] Switched the upper bag to a 300 square foot, true sub-micron cartridge from Wynne Environmental;
[4] Built a big pre-filter box to keep anything larger than 1/4" from getting as far as the DC itself -- let alone the cartridge. (At that time I had not seen that Bill Pentz now has plans for a cyclone based on a 1.5HP unit, or I probably would have built one instead of the filter box.)
In addition:
My system uses 6" sewer & drain pipe -- or the equivalent -- for all major machines.
I use both above table and below table dust extraction for the TS and the table mounted router.
Finally, I use very short runs to all major machines. The longest is about seven feet.
Altogether the system works great. I am allergic, so I am pretty sensitive to the level of small particulates in the air. Since I finished the system described above I haven't had any allergic reactions to speak of except now and then when I forget to open a blast gate. :o
