Just to add to your list of things to think about consider the picture below. What you can't see is that this scale is only four thousandths of an inch thick, it's adhesive backed plastic and can be mounted on a magnetic rubber backing. I made a couple of these for my shop as wrap arounds, to mark and layoff round pieces since the material is so flexible.

I make my own custon shop jigs and fixtures, the capability to design custom scales, linear and radial puts the finishing touch and a professional look to every tool. I should mention that the acuracy is within .004", not bad for a piece of plastic :)

I often put this material on one eighth inch acrylic and then engrave and vector cut the piece to any shape or design. This is usefull for signs and a host of other items. With a magnetic backing it can be a flexible magnetic scale or a truck sign for a business.
