Here are a couple of segmented turnings The larger one is 8" dia. x 7.5" tall and the "Ten of Diamonds" is 5" dia. x 8" tall. Finish is tung oil. The larger one was done last Sept. and the other I recently made for a co-worker that will be leaving soon. Coment and critiques welcome

Mike, those are very nice - particularly the first one for wood combination. What did you use?

I like the diamond vase, as well, but the coloration of the first one is better, IMO.

I am so amazed at you segmenting guys!! Such great joinery, and planning in these pieces. How do you do the odd shaped inlays like in the first one?

Mike,
Your pieces turned out great.

How did you make the feature ring in the first piece?

Excellent work!

Mike, these are awesome turnings. Like John noted, the colors are fabulous on the first one, not to mention the fine joinery & detailing. As for my personal liking, I would choose the second one for form and detailing. My tastes are more simplistic than a lot of people, uncluttered & clean lines. Your co-worker is going to be amazed at this piece. Great work!

I like em both, and I am going to learn how to make feature rings like that -- one day. What kind of wood is the first one?

Thank you all for your kind words. To answer a few of the questions, first the woods are appalacitian alowood, black alowood, holy, walnut and maple feature ring on the large one. Cherry, bloodwood, holy, and black alowood on the smaller one. The feature ring on the first one was created with a router bit.
Here is a link to the manufacture of the alowood product, I find it very nice to work with.

Both are beautiful and flawless. I am particularly attracted to the shorter one - I think it is the color combination.
