What id question?

I found this wood in my firewood stack. Does anyone know what kind of wood it is? I know it isn't elm, it doesn't have the usual elm odor. I cut some up for pen blanks

Looks like catalpa to me.

It looks just like the Catalpa I have. Is it pretty light in weight? Does it have a smell sort of sharp? I have not figured out a good smell to relate the odor of catalpa to so that is what I go with. My dad used to smoke cigars that came in an aluminum tube with a piece of Spanish cedar in it and it sort of reminds me of that too.
